CHIPPENHAM avoided a final-day relegation from WEPL Premier One as they beat Thornbury by four wickets on Saturday.
The Wiltshire side began the afternoon in the bottom four but finished the season in fifth thanks to a first win in six. Subsequently, Thornbury were relegated in ninth place.
Thornbury batted first and made 241 all out, thanks in the main to Chris Matthews' contribution of 68 from 91 balls.
In reply, Ollie Meadows was the hero for Chippenham after scoring 78 runs from 61 balls before being caught out by Chris Matthews off Anir Sanat's bowling. But the Wiltshire side reached their target with four wickets to spare to ensure safety.
Elsewhere, Potterne ended the season in second place following a victory over Bedminster. Potterne won by seven wickets after reaching 229 for 3, with Bedminster 224 all out.
Jake Goodwin made an impressive 106 from 81 balls for Potterne, and he ended the day not out to boot.
In WEPL Premier Two Gloucestershire-Wiltshire, Goatacre ended the season second in the table following a 65-run win away at Warminster.
Goatacre racked up 264 for 8 at the end of their 50 overs, and Warminster were all out for 199, falling well short of their target.
Benny Howell scored highest for the visitors with 73 runs from 78 balls before being caught out by Gareth Schreuder, the bowler being Sam Loud.
The impressive Schreuder was run out by Ewen Kenny on 76 runs from 74 balls.
Meanwhile, Corsham were narrowly defeated at home to Marshfield, the away side winning by just two runs.
Marshfield opted to bat first and made their way to 238 all out, but with Corsham closing in on victory, the visitors took the final wicket with their hosts two runs shy of success.
Burbage and Easton Royal ended their season in sixth place and with a victory, after beating Frocester at Pounds Close by five wickets.
Frocester scored 257 for two, but Burbage and Easton Royal chased it down with five wickets remaining.
