POTTERNE suffered a seven-wicket defeat away to WEPL Premier One champions-elect Bath at the weekend, causing the Wiltshire side’s title hopes to be all but extinguished.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, none of the visitors made it to 50 as Potterne managed 222-9 at the end of their 50 overs.

Wesley Coulentianos crawled to a top score of 39 off 64 balls as the Wiltshire side failed to set a competitive target.

In reply, Bath made the chase looking extremely comfortable. Bradley Porteus blasted 135 from 85 balls as the home side made their target in just the 28th over.

Meanwhile, Chippenham lost by two wickets against Bridgewater CC.

The Wiltshire side made 181 all out after choosing to bat first, but Bridgewater chased it down in the 34th over.

WEPL PREMIER TWO GLOS-WILTS

In WEPL Premier Two Gloucestershire-Wiltshire, Goatacre continued their tussle with Frocester at the top following wins for both at the weekend.

The Gloucestershire outfit swept relegation-threatened Warminster aside by five wickets to move back into top spot, but Goatacre remain level on 232 points following their three-wicket victory away at Cheltenham.

Jack Haines (74), Toby Kershaw (39), and Ed Wilkins (42no) helped Goatacre reach their target of 219 with five balls remaining.

Elsewhere, Burbage & Easton Royal won a thriller against Hatherley & Reddings by two runs.

Adam Lavis hit 54 as Burbage nudged up to 235 all out with two balls remaining. But with Hatherly at 208-5 and seemingly in touching distance of the win, George Worker picked up an inspirational five-for to snatch the contest away from the visitors.

Corsham beat Stroud by 55 runs thanks to 69 from Tom Abbott with the bat and four wickets from the hand of David Williams.

Despite 50 from Elijah Samuel and 46 from Dave Jenkins, Marshfield lost to Corse & Staunton by 40 runs.

WEPL WILTSHIRE

In WEPL Wiltshire, Royal Wootton Bassett are potentially one win away from landing the title and promotion following their 10-wicket success against Hinton Charterhouse.

Bassett can wrap up the title against great rivals Swindon with a win and other results falling in their favour on Saturday.

Swindon lost by 58 runs to Biddestone last weekend, while Corsham beat Potterne seconds by one wicket, and Trowbridge cruised past Westbury & District by nine wickets.
