POTTERNE’S WEPL Premier One title hopes are all but over after a shock defeat to mid-table Clevedon on Saturday.
While Bath maintained their unbeaten campaign courtesy of a four-wicket win at home to Bridgewater, Potterne lost by 90 runs and consequently fell 46 points behind in second.
Despite pegging Clevedon back to 0-2, an outstanding 132 from Cameron Harding helped the hosts reach 246 all out with a ball remaining.
After taking 4-52 with the ball, Chris Aubrey led the way with the bat and top scored with 31 for Potterne.
But a plethora of starts from his teammates saw the Wiltshire side fall well short of their target as they were bowled out for 156.
Elsewhere in the division, Chippenham were thumped by 184 runs away to Taunton St Andrews.
Taunton’s Josh and George Thomas both scored centuries - 114 and 103, respectively - as the hosts set 371-6.
Opener Ollie Meadows was run out after top-scoring with 41 but Chippenham fell well short and were bowled out in the 35th over.
In WEPL Premier Two Gloucester-Wiltshire, Goatacre moved top following a 56-run success away at Corse & Staunton.
Gloucestershire professional Benny Howell rescued the Wiltshire side with a classy 72, while Bradley Dawson chipped in with an equally-important 66 from 50 balls.
In reply, wickets at regular intervals cost the hosts dear, and Potterne restricted Corse & Stanton to 201-9 at the end of the 50 overs.
Corsham’s 48-run win at home to Frocester was well received in both west and central Wiltshire as the pair remained in contention for the title.
Marshfield cruised to a 162-run win at home to Hatherly & Reddings thanks, in the main, to 107 not out from Kadeem Henry.
Warminster edged past Cheltenham by two wickets, while Burbage & Easton Royal were the only Wiltshire side not to win as they were beaten by 153 runs at home to Stroud.
In WEPL Wiltshire, Royal Wootton Bassett remain top after a 33-run success away at Biddestone.
There were also wins for Hinton Charterhouse, Trowbridge, and Swindon.
