IT’S always a great feeling to get named man-of-the-match on TV – I had a very good game against Warwickshire last week.
I’ve played well in the one-day competition all year and it was a big two points for us after losing to Essex in the game before.
We’ve got two games to go in the One-Day Cup and one win could be enough to get us a home quarter-final, which is exactly what we want.
We’ve been given the two points from the Glamorgan game that was called off (on August 2) and it was the right decision.
They obviously haven’t prepared a bad wicket on purpose but they’ve had problems in the past and I don’t know what the issues are myself but it’s right that we got the points.
We’re in a really strong position in the competition now but we’ve got a T20 quarter-final on Friday night (away to Worcestershire) that we’ve got to concentrate on before those last two games against Lancashire and Notts.
We’ve been pretty poor in the county championship this season but we’ve given ourselves a massive chance of staying up by beating a very good Warwickshire side this week.
We were actually very lucky to finish the game and get the result because it was starting to rain a lot – we were really hoping that it would hold off and as soon as we got the last wicket, it really started to come down.
There’s still a lot of cricket left to play, so we’ve definitely got a chance of staying in Division One.
We’d be the first to admit that we haven’t been anywhere near our best so far this year but if we can get two or three wins between now and the end of September, hopefully that will be enough to keep us where we want to be.
I saw Goatacre’s result in the semi-final of the National Village Cup and it’s tough on them to lose by just five runs but that’s the game.
I know Ed Wilkins well and as the batsman of the day, he probably wanted to stay in for the entire game and will think that he probably should have won them the game.
It’s just little things that have cost them and they’ll be feeling down right now but they’ve come such a long way.
