IT’S been going on for ten weeks now – Monday’s game just summed up how things have been going for us.
I trust my players and they put in a great performance at one of the hardest places to go to on Saturday but then they go and perform as poorly as they did against Supermarine.
In the last five years, we’ve always had a consistency and a resilience about us but that’s been sorely lacking this season.
Player for player, we’ve probably not had as many technically gifted players in previous years but their work ethic and desire has been so much better – you just don’t expect players to give you a seven or an eight out of ten performance one game and then a three or four out of ten the next.
When you watch these players on a Tuesday or Thursday night, they look like world-beaters but it’s easy to perform when the pressure’s not on.
When you’re in a match and you’re up against someone, that’s when you need to be brave and produce.
It’s still a bit too early to start looking at what we want to do to move forward next season yet because we’ve yet to talk about budgets or anything like that with the board.
I know the chairman will be speaking to me soon and then I can start talking to the players after that to see where we want to go.
I’ve asked us to finish strongly and we’re still going into every game trying to win it – we don’t set up to try and be defensive or anything like that.
Stourbridge will definitely be a tough game.
They’ve had a fantastic cup run but the fixture backlog has hurt them and I think that they’ve played 55 games already.
James Guthrie, Iain Harvey and Mani Randhawa are all back available and Kev Sawyer’s back in training but we need to see how he goes.
