IN previous seasons, going to Hemel and getting a draw has always been a good result, and they’re a much-changed side after the last few weeks as they’ve changed manager.
I thought the lads dug in well on a poor pitch and, apart from the sloppy goal we gave away, they didn’t really create many chances.
We made some good chances ourselves and James Guthrie had a really good one that he missed in the first half after going through on goal.
I wouldn’t say that it was a big improvement on the last few weeks but we did well because we went there with a scratch side. Ashley Williams wasn’t available because of work commitments and Luke Gullick and Greg Tindle were injured.
Nathan Rudge and Shaun Lamb were also carrying knocks.
I’d take a scrappy performance where we still pick up points over the kind where we play well but don’t get anything out of the game every time.
That’s what happened on Saturday and we were punished for not being clinical enough and scoring when we’re on top – sides are always going to have their spells and Hitchin got their goal when they had theirs.
We’re looking to turn the formbook on its head this Saturday at Brackley and, because of the way we play, we know that we can play open, attacking football against them.
It’ll be an exciting game and, with the side we’ve got, we know we can get three points up there.
Hopefully we can finish off a few more of the chances we’ve been creating though because that’s what we’ll need to do.
They’re top of the league and I think it’s a lot easier to get there when you’re able to spend £7,500 a week on players.
It allows you to get a squad of 25 very good players who have the quality to produce for the whole season.
