I THINK that the result from Tuesday night demonstrates just how tough a place Banbury is to go – Cambridge went there off the back of a 10-match unbeaten run and came unstuck.
The lads stood up to be counted when we went there, dominated the game in the second half and should have won.
Our goalkeeping situation has been horrendous this season, it really has.
You just can’t legislate for the instability it brings to a team and to a back four bringing in different keepers all the time and Kevin’s (Sawyer) luck has been terrible since he’s been with us.
You couldn’t write the script could you? You bring a lad in who’s arguably been one of the best keepers in the South West in the last few years and as soon as he come in, he gets injured in his first game.
We’ve just got to make sure we get him right now.
I went to watch Cirencester play Supermarine on Tuesday and I thought they did very well for long periods.
It was nice to catch up with a few old faces who were playing for Supermarine.
Ross Adams hadn’t played a game for five-and-a-half months and I know that if we were struggling in his position, he would have come back to Chippenham to help us out.
Ian Gill also came in to help them and he hasn’t really trained for a long time after having a snowboarding accident.
We’ve got a few irons in the fire and hopefully we can have a new striker in place for Saturday because we’ve been lacking that cutting edge in the final third since losing Lewis Powell.
Ian Herring has gone back (to Eastleigh) and it was great to have him back with us but we need to cut our cloth accordingly again because he came in to help when we had a lot of injuries.
We need to try and get a settled side together and get a much-needed win this weekend.
