I think we needed to bounce back from last week, where we let ourselves down.
Last week, a side came here and played 3-5-2 and we matched them but this time, we went with 4-4-2 and even though they’ve created a few chances it just shows why I’m a firm believer that if you do the right things in a 4-4-2, like communicate and pass people on, you’ll get your joy down the sides.
When you’ve got good movement up front and lads who are good in wide areas, it’s very difficult for three at the back to contain that.
(Last-ditch defending) is what you pay defenders to do and they’ve got to throw their bodies on the line sometimes – I think some of the chances they created were of our own making.
Weymouth have picked up points against some good sides and they’d beaten us twice already this season, so we knew that we had to do the right things when we didn’t have the ball.
But I thought we showed good concentration levels and once we did get good possession of the ball, we won the game quite comfortably – with a bit better finishing on the night, we could have scored more.
We play Barwell this weekend – they are a good side. You can see by where they are in the league and the quality of player they’ve signed that they’re going to ask questions of a lot of sides.
When we went there (a 5-3 loss in October), the game was very stretched and open and once we got a man sent off, they managed to pick us off with two goals late on to make the scoreline more flattering for them.
We’ll try and ask questions of them this time.
Tommy Smith’s last game was on Tuesday and we’ll look to see if we need to renew his loan for another month or if Kev (Sawyer) is going to be fit to play this weekend.
Having games postponed has actually done us the world of good and allowed us to get lads back fit. We would have been struggling.
