I WAS disappointed for the lads on Saturday because we’ve been on a great run but they didn’t start well and gave themselves a mountain to climb.
They played 3-5-2 against our 4-4-2 and it was always difficult to deal with the free man - we never got to grips with their number eight (Declan Benjamin) making forward runs.
We changed it in the second half and asked questions but couldn’t get that final breakthrough.
We can’t beat ourselves up too much but we’ve got to make sure that we’re better and we start games brighter.
Losing Will Puddy couldn’t have come at a worse time and we’ve only really had a week to try and get a replacement.
Everyone at the club wishes him the best at Salisbury though and you never say never in football – maybe we’ll see Will in a Chippenham shirt again in the future.
I feel that we still need another striker but we don’t want to rush and bring someone in for the sake of it.
The remaining games this season are going to be high tempo and high intensity and we don’t want any of the strikers we’ve got to get fatigued.
There are a few lads on the radar and we know what kind of striker we’re after but we still want to be patient with that.
Greg Tindle took a stray boot to the face at Oxford but he’s a tough boy and should be fine for this weekend.
Dave Gilroy’s back to full fitness but Steve Casey and James Guthrie are doubts with knocks.
Scott Lye’s also still a few weeks away with his hamstring injury.
We go to Bedford on Saturday and we know that they’re a good side on their day.
I know Drew Roberts (the league’s top goalscorer with 23 goals) well and he’ll ask questions of our defence.
They’ve beaten Brackley 5-2 and also won 4-0 at Leamington this season.
