THE Trophy is the non-league’s version of the FA Cup and you get big games for the supporters and players to both enjoy.
I thought that we were outstanding at Eastleigh on Tuesday night.
We had the best possible start with Griff (Alan Griffin) getting his goal and we created some good chances towards the end of the first half.
The second half was a lot more even, but even then we could have nicked it when (Lewis) Powell had a good chance and Sands (Andy Sandell) went through but took one too many touches.
The boys worked their socks off and we managed to do it in the end with the penalties.
It was absolutely fantastic.
Scott Lye played 80 minutes after four weeks out with injury and Nathan Rudge had his first 90 minutes for a few weeks too.
Sandell also hadn’t played a full game in a long time, so the lads were really out on their feet at the end of the game.
We had fantastic support in the first game on Saturday and again at Eastleigh, which was great to see.
It could have been easy for the supporters not to make the effort on a cold Tuesday night but they did and they are like a kindred spirit for the players.
We’ll make sure that we look after the boys in training tonight because we’ve got to focus straight on a massive Evo-Stik League Southern Premier game against Chesham this weekend.
They are unbeaten at home in the league in 25 games so we know just how hard it will be to come back from there with something.
We had a really tight 1-0 win over them at home earlier this season but we’ve got to focus and try our best to put in a good performance.
