CHIPPENHAM swimmer Stephanie Millward is riding the crest of a wave in 2010 and she believes it will carry her all the way to IPC Swimming World Championship glory in Eindhoven next month.

The 28-year-old has targeted the podium in six events in Holland as she continues to impress on the international stage.

Millward, who won Paralympic silver in the 50m freestyle at Beijing 2008, scooped four gold and one silver medal at the European Champion-ships last year.

“Ideally I would like a medal from all six events – my preparations are going well so I don’t see a reason why I can’t do that,” said Millward, speaking at a British Swimming preparation camp in Llandudno.

“My preparations have been going really well for Eindhoven and I am really excited about it and really looking forward to it.

“The Olympics in 2012 is the event at the top of the tower and the World Championships are the event that let you know whether you are on track or not so they are really important.

“With my events I am going to be swimming against so many different people so I can’t really pick out any rivals, I just have to swim as I know I can in all of them.

“The championships are good for that as well though because they let you know how quick everyone else is going.”

With London 2012 now just two years away, Millward knows an impressive showing in Eindhoven can lay down a marker for the future.

“I really think it could boost your confidence if you go to the World Championships and you beat people by two seconds because then you can start thinking ‘if I’m winning by two seconds now I could be winning by double that come 2012’,” she said.

“It is the same that if you swim fast now then you just have to think ‘if I’m swimming this fast now, how fast will I be going by 2012?’ “In Beijing it was a great atmosphere and lots of people turned up to support their team but I think in Britain we can show them how it is really done.”
