SOUTH Wilts got their hands on the Jack Wilcox Trophy on Sunday, after thrashing Corsham on their home ground.
The Twenty20 tournament was due to feature the top four sides from the county, based on last year’s league rankings, but West of England Premier Cricket League outfit Warminster dropped out early on Sunday morning after failing to raise a side.
The trophy was instead contested by three teams, with home side Corsham starting with a comfortable eight-wicket win over Chippenham.
Salisbury-based South Wilts then notched up a six-wicket win over Chipp-enham, setting up a final with the home side.
Tom Morton hit a stunning 105 from 64 balls for South Wilts, with Rob Pittman making 47 as they posted 197-7.
Toby Davies hit 27 for Corsham but Charlie King, Shaun Dixon and Warren Humphries all took two wickets each as the hosts were skittled for 92 in the 18th over.
“South Wilts absolutely annihilated us in the final,” said Corsham skipper Pete Dennett.
“We dropped one guy four times which wasn’t very helpful and they deserved to win.
“It was a shame that Warminster had to drop out and if we’d had a bit more notice then we could have maybe got a side form Westbury involved.
“Despite that, it was still a good day in the end – everybody enjoyed it, there was a good atmosphere and quite a big crowd at the ground, who seemed to get into the games.”
