SKIPPER Pete Dennett says his side’s win away to Taunton on Saturday was much needed.

After suffering two consecutive defeats, Corsham returned to winning ways and recorded a two-wicket victory over their Somerset counterparts.

“We’ve let ourselves down a bit in the last couple of weeks and haven’t played as well as we have been doing, so it was much needed,” said the Corsham captain.

“It got a little bit interesting at the end but it was quite comfortable.

“I’m pleased to be fourth in the table but I think the defeat (away to Bristol) last week has ended any outside chance we had of winning the league. Bath are over the hill at the top of the table but we’re still in the battle to finish second and I’m happy with that.”

Corsham won the toss and chose to bowl first, with Quasim Khurshid claiming three wickets.

Jack Cooper top-scored for Taunton with 68 from 74 balls while Craig Williams and Jon Todd hit 30 and 27 respectively.

But Tom Hankins and Joseph King both took a further two wickets each, as Taunton were skittled out for 182 in the 49th over.

Opener Steve Bullen led the run-chase for Dennett’s side, as he hit 64. Hankins added 31 from 21 deliveries while Sam Collier made 30.

Taunton’s Ben Orr put some pressure on the Corsham batting order as he took four wickets for 14 runs but a late unbeaten 14 from Tom Bowler steered the visitors to 184-8 in the 55th over.

Corsham will be looking to build on Saturday’s result when they play host to bottom side Glastonbury this weekend.
