SKIPPER Craig Gibbens believes Goatacre’s win over Malmesbury wasn’t his side’s best performance but he was still thrilled to see his title-chasers pick up their tenth consecutive victory.
Goatacre beat Phil Jordan’s men by 52 runs on Saturday, keeping the heat on league leaders Lechlade.
“We weren’t really that clinical – they got to 141 but we should have really bowled them out for about 120,” said Gibbens.
“We miss out on a couple of points but we needed to win and I can’t really complain.
“Sam Parish played really well and got a good score at the end of our innings, it’s great to see that we’ve got people who can do that all through the order, rather than having to rely on the openers.
“It’s been a great season for us and everybody’s enjoying it.
“It really looks like it’s going to come down to the game against Lechlade on August 7.”
Gibbens’ side batted first after winning the toss and Parish’s late unbeaten 50 helped them post a competitive total, with Kevin Iles and Jack Haines making 32 and 26 respectively.
Malmesbury’s Richard Gaunt took three wickets and Robert Gillespie two, but Goatacre posted 193-8.
Gillespie led the fightback for the hosts with 33 but skipper Jordan was closest behind with just 19.
Goatacre’s bowlers piled on the pressure, with Matt House taking three wickets. Bradley Dawson also took two as Malmesbury were skittled out in the 40th over.
Jordan’s men travel to Great Bedwyn this weekend while Goatacre are at home to Nationwide House.
