SAM Allison wants his testimonial match to be a competitive game and a good exercise for the Chippenham Town squad as they continue their pre-season preparations.

The Bluebirds will honour their longest-serving player on Saturday when they face Conference National side Forest Green Rovers at Hardenhuish Park.

Allison, 29, has invited a host of his footballing friends to take part, including former Chippenham players.

He said: “In the time I’ve been at Chippenham, I might not have been the most prolific of strikers but I’ve always tried to work hard all the time and do my bit for the team – that’s what I want to do on Saturday.” He joined the Bluebirds in 2003 from Paulton Rovers.

“I might not even start that game and I want it to be all about Chippenham because no player is bigger than the club,” he said.

“I’ve got a few friends who may get a run-out if Adie (Mings) feels it’s fit to do so, like Jamie Gosling (ex-Bath City), David Gilroy (of Woking) and my cousin Simeon (Allison) and Jamie Cheeseman from Frome.

“There might be a couple of other lads like Scott Sinclair from Chelsea and Nathan Dyer (of Swansea City) but it’s quite hard to get a couple of those boys because they’ve got games themselves.

“I’m grateful to the club for giving me the opportunity to do it.”

He will keep the gate receipts minus the club’s expenses for the referee and other officials.

Entry for the game is £5 for adults, £3 for pensioners and £1 for children under 16. Club director Chris Blake said that if the average gate of around 400 people turn up Allison will make about £1,000.
