Chippenham Town's pre-season preparations continued on Saturday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by a youthful Bristol Rovers XI.

The Bluebirds fielded a strong line-up and took an early lead in the seventh minute when Scott Lye's through ball played in Ashley Edenborough.

The winger lifted the ball over Sam Butler to grab his first goal in the blue of Chippenham.

With 20 mintues on the clock, the visitors hit back.

Striker Robbi Maggs picked up the ball on the edge of the area before hitting a low shot that beat Chris Snoddy at the near post.

The Bluebirds could have regained the lead before half-time, but Sam Allison's header looped onto the top of the crossbar.

Chippenham made eight changes at half-time and the second-half saw few chances for either side.

Rovers' Jordan Tilson had the games's best chance of a winner but despite being unmarked, the defender sent his header over the bar fom Jack McKenna's free-kick.

Substitute Shaun Benison curled a shot just past the post while Rob Smart had a header saved late on, but the game finished 1-1.

Chippenham's next pre-season friendly is away to Corsham Town next Tuesday evening.
