BROAD Hinton’s Anne Dunham has been selected in Great Britain’s team for the World Equestrian Games in America in September and October.

The four-time Paralympic dressage team gold medallist, 61, will partner faithful mount Teddy at the two-week event in Kentucky – her fifth successive world championship since 1994.

Dunham, awarded an MBE in the 2009 new Year’s Honours list for her services to the sport, only returned to competition earlier this year after a two-year break from the international scene following major heart surgery.

The only Briton to have competed at all four Paralympic Games, she said: “I’m absolutely over the moon.

“It’s been a challenge this time getting on the team as I’ve been coming back from 18 months off but I’m really looking forward to seeing Kentucky, soaking up the atmosphere and, of course, representing my country.”

Dunham, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis aged 27 and wheelchair bound from the age of 30, is classified as a grade Ia rider – the level for the most disabled riders and has won 13 major gold medals.

The para-dressage competition in Kentucky starts on October 5.
