LOCKERIDGE-based Andrew Nicholson was slightly disappointed to miss out on the CIC*** title at Barbury.
The 49 year-old New Zealander had the fastest time of the day with Avebury but lost his overnight lead on Sunday with an unexpected run out at the influential quarry fence.
Nicholson claimed third on his earlier ride, the Spanish-bred chestnut Armada and had no regrets over his performance.
“I had to ride fast – there wasn’t another way to try and win,” he said.
“It’s a little bit disappointing not to come first but I am happy with how it all went.
“It’s always great to ride at Barbury because it’s a tough course and there’s been some really exciting competition here.”
Nicholson was still left with reason to celebrate after picking up two other titles.
The Kiwi took top spot in the CIC** section B on another Spanish bred horse, black gelding Quimbo.
He was again last out in the strong 99 starter competition and came home with a second in hand.
Nicholson’s second win was in the Novice Section D on eight year old Lantana.
