PAUL Bates was glad to see his Chippenham side come out on top after a tense five-wicket win over Ashcott and Shapwick on Saturday.
After winning the toss, the visitors opted to bowl first with Rob Woodman taking three wickets.
Richard Bates also claimed three while Trevor Lloyd took two and made three catches as Ashcott were all out for 147 in the 47th over.
The hosts’ James Hayman made life difficult for the Chippenham batsman as he took three wickets but Bates and Lloyd were on hand to steer the visitors to victory late on.
The pair made an unbeaten stand of 66, taking Chippenham to 149-5 in just over 37 overs.
“The score looks comfortable but it definitely wasn’t like that,” said skipper Bates.
“If they’d taken another wicket before we reached 100 runs, then it would have been really difficult – I’m very happy.”
