CORSHAM captain Pete Dennett hailed his side’s 171-run victory over Taunton Deane on Saturday as “incredible”.

The hosts won the toss, choosing to bat first, with Tom Hankins leading the charge with an astonishing knock of 293.

The Corsham batsman eventually became one of three wickets to fall to Taunton’s Dave Reading but opener Steve Bullen added 71 and Richard Foley made 25 as Dennett’s side posted a massive 420-6.

Jason Squire top-scored for his side with 67 as the visitors aimed to keep their slim hopes of a result alive.

Paul Robbins hit 43 while opener Chris Jones made 32 but Corsham’s Ashur Morrison halted the run-chase as he claimed four wickets.

Qasim Khurshid and Tom Bowler took a further two wickets each as Taunton were skittled for 249 in the 48th over.

“I’m really pleased with the win because it was the perfect way for the team to bounce back after our poor showing the week before against Bath,” said skipper Dennett.

“What we need to do is come back to win if we want to be a good side – it was an incredible performance. We had 11 guys out there who were desperate to win.

“Tom batted superbly and when we were bowling, Qasim took Devon Conway in the first over, who is their main batsman and the league’s leading run scorer, and that was a great start for us.

“We actually didn’t bowl and field that well but I think that was down to the score we’d made, thanks to Tom’s batting.”

The win sees Corsham stay fourth in the Premier One division table, narrowly behind Taunton St Andrews. They go to seventh-placed Weston-super-Mare this weekend.
