Downend skipper Michael Ponter put the skids under Chippenham as the Bristol visitors got home by two wickets at Hardenhuish Park.

Ponter took four wickets as Chippenham were restricted to 211-7 in their 50-over innings.

And the Premier Two leaders successfully chased down the target inside 48 overs.

Jake Reid smashed 76 as Downend got home with eight men down.

Chippenham are fourth from bottom in the table, but still looking over their shoulder with Cheltenham, Westbury and rock-bottom Knowle all not far behind.

There was little cheer for Chippenham’s second string either as they were comprehensively beaten by Taunton St Andrew in Premier One (2nd XI).

Taunton totalled 240-7 from 45 overs and the visitors fell well short, succumbing to 134 all out in just 31 overs to leave themselves still in the bottom two.
