PAULTON Rovers assistant manager Paul Milsom says his side will relish being labelled underdogs ahead of the FA Cup meeting this weekend but are capable of springing another surprise.
The Somerset side are unbeaten in their past four league games and have also defeated three teams in the higher leagues to reach this stage of the competition.
Paulton caused the shock of the last round when they defeated Newport County, who were previously unbeaten in Conference South, although Milsom believes the Bluebirds will pose an even sterner threat.
“On our day we can be a match for anyone, which we’re hoping to do on Saturday,” he said.
“It has got to that stage now where you’re one step away, if you’re lucky enough to go through, from getting a really big draw in the first round.
“We’re a young side and all our players will be up for the game.
“We’re underdogs again and there is no pressure on us. We’ll just give it our best shot, work our socks off and we could cause a shock.”
Milsom is a former Chippenham player who was brought to the club by Darren Perrin at the start of the 2006/07 campaign.
While he was only there for one season, Milsom knows a number of the current squad and is under no illusions about the size of the task in front of Paulton.
“We’ve not been lucky to reach this stage but Chippenham will be a different game altogether.
“Adie will have them well-drilled and he won’t take us lightly. Hopefully we can perform well and get the job done in front of a decent crowd.
“I know four or five of their players, like Ross Adams, Sam Allison and Chris Snoddy, so we’ll be in for a tough game.
“The front two have been on fire for them and Scotty Lye is a good player in midfield. They’re a threat all over the park.”
