Wrag Barn golf club member Ben Loughrey won the North of England Youths U23 Championships held at Middlesbrough GC Yorkshire on the 4th, 5th & 6th August.

He qualified after 36 holes with scores of 72 & 66 to be in 4th place 3 shots behind the leader.

Over the final 36 holes Ben carded rounds of 68 & 69 over the final 36 holes to win by 1 shot on 5 under par for the 72 holes.

This was Bens' first major win on the amateur circuit pitting himself against the best amateur golfers in the country.

Ben off +2 is hoping this win will get him a selection into an England squad in 2010.

Ben has been a member of Wrag Barn GC since the age of 7 & has represented his club & county.

The club congratulates Ben on his win and said they hoped there will be many more in the future.

See some of the cream of English Amateur golf at the English Golf Union County Finals being played at Chipping Sodbury GC on the 25th, 26th & 27th September. Ben will be in the Wiltshire team as they battle three other counties over three days in foursomes & singles matchplay for the title of English County Champions.

Entry is FREE & Wiltshire are looking for success as the county has never won this title.

Josh Loughrey won the Wrag Barn Club Championship on 30th August, shooting a decent first round of 76, followed by a sizzling second round of gross 68, including four 2s. Not to be too hard done by on the day, his brother Ben came second.
