Chippenham Town Ladies missed chances led to defeat.
In what was an entertaining game between two fairly evenly matched teams with much of the game contested in the midfield areas.
Stoke Lane Ladies had much of the possession early in the game, but the Chippenham defence dealt with everything with ease. Chippenham’s forwards, Emma Bolter and Lucy Bailey had chances to score on the break, but shot too close to the Stoke Lane keeper who was able to make comfortable saves.
The deadlock was broken in the 35th minute when Chippenham failed to clear the ball and Stoke Lane fired the ball low through a crowd of players leaving the Chippenham goalkeeper with no time to make a save.
The second half was much the same as the first.
Stoke Lane doubled their lead in the 52nd minute when their number nine collected the ball on the edge of the 18 yard box, dribbled past two Chippenham defenders and fired high into the Chippenham net.
Stoke Lane almost increased their lead in the 60th minute, but a fingertip save by Amy Waller pushed the ball onto the crossbar.
Stoke Lane did extend their lead in the 65th minute when a ball was again fired low through a crowd of players and into the net.
Chippenham pulled a goal back in the 69th minute when Hannah Way broke down the right wing and then chipped the Stoke Lane keeper from 20 yards.
Chippenham upped the tempo after that and had several chances to score, but it was Stoke Lane who proved the better finishers on the day, scoring their fourth goal in the 86th minute with a ball over the top of the Chippenham defence left the forward one on one with the Chippenham keeper who had no chance of saving an accurately placed ball.
Chippenham doubled their score in the 88th minute when Saphri Lines scored; just reward for her hard work in midfield.
Chippenham: Amy Waller, Julie Baker, Megan Evans, Nichola Craig, Nina Croker, Lia Painter (Sam Herrich), Chloe Giles (Jude Gingell), Hannah Way, Saphri Lines, Emma Bolter, Lucy Bailey.
