AFTER the Leamington game on Saturday I was disappointed as I felt it was a game we should have won.
We made mistakes defensively but looked very good going forward and, especially at 4-3 up, we should have gone on to get all three points.
Having said that, realistically, when you get four points from two games in 48 hours then it has to be considered a good weekend.
Clevedon came to draw the game on Monday and it took us a while to break them down.
However, that is something we are going to have to get used to as we continue to improve.
A lot of teams will look to come to Hardenhuish Park and catch us on the break or take advantage at set plays and try to nick a point.
It’s a good thing in a way because it means sides are showing us respect and I’d like to thank the supporters for turning out on Monday and supporting the young lads right until the end.
Ben Thomson played for Calne Town on Tuesday night and he will probably do so on Saturday as well to get his match fitness up.
He’s going to be an important figure for us this season and especially when Luke Gullick goes away for international trials with Trinidad for four weeks.
Charlie Clough’s loan is up soon but I’m hopeful we’ll be able to keep him for at least a second month and he seems to be enjoying himself at the club.
I spoke to Kyle Bassett before Monday’s game and explained why I left him out.
He’s had tonsilitis and hadn’t trained for a week, but he understood and remains an important figure who will be back in the squad on Saturday.
Without a doubt we are in for our hardest test so far at Cambridge.
I’ve had them watched and am hearing they are a better side than last year so we’ll have to be very good to get anything from the game.
We were the first side to beat them at their place last year though and we have a fully-fit squad for this one.
I’d also like to wish our Chairman John Applegate all the best and a speedy recovery as he goes into hospital for a knee operation.
