CHIPPENHAM’S Mike Milstead clinched victory in the seventh Malmesbury Triathlon, in which more than 350 competitors took part.

Milstead’s strong bike section – he completed the 22 kilometres to Luckington and back in 35 minutes – gave him a 15-second win over Bristol’s Carle Green with Westbury’s Adam Wells six seconds back in third.

The Chippenham man finished in one hour, one minute and 27 seconds, as he followed up previous wins at the Bradford on Avon, Westonbirt, Trowbridge and Corsham triathlons.

He also took the overall prize of top competitor in the Active Events series.

The ladies overall winner was Rachel Bown, from Total Fitness Bath in 1.11.18, as just 26 seconds covered the top three.

The male 40 prize went to Steve Cole, of Chippenham, (1.1.02) as he finished fourth overall and posted an impressive bike time of 35.27.

The award for top Malmesbury finisher went to Mark Lester, who finished in a personal best of 1.09.58 for 33rd.

Martyn Matthews, from Chippenham, took the over 60s award in 1.23.35, his first-ever age group win in triathlon after taking up the event this year.

Matthew Griffin, of Chippenham Wheelers, won the male youth category for 15-16 year olds and was 11th overall in 1.06.33 seconds.

The female 45 winner was Jacquie Cole, from Chippenham, in 1.18.25.
