Having waltzed to the division four title last season, North Star B must wait until next weekend to start life in Division three so all eyes will be on the other newly promoted sides who will all fancy their chance in starting the new season with a victory.
Devizes based British Lion have moved pitches form All Cannings to Rowde but with second division Green Bell due to play at Sands Lane, British Lion are seeking an alternative venue for their game with Southwick Wanderers.
Wherever the game is staged it should be a good one as both teams are equally matched, the result is a hard one to call but with home advantage the Lion should roar to success and with a number of former Rowde players arriving to strengthen what was already a strong squad of players the should start with a win.
Eastlands v FC Jager
Local rivals Eastlands and FC Jager are set to clash at George Ward School, Melksham and sadly for Adam Davey’s Eastlands outfit the chances of his side beating Barry Holloway’s star studded Jager side are very slim. FC Jager have 34 players signed on with an average age of 26, while the average of Eastlands 16 man squad is 29 but with four players 40 or over the youngsters of FC Jager are expected to give their opponents the runaround as they looked to hit the ground running and make up for the disappointment of missing out on an automatic promotion spot last term. The only outcome of this game should be a big victory for the visitors.
Pack Horse Rangers v Blue Circle (Sunday)
Having failed to win any of their last eight games of the previous campaign, Pack Horse Rangers will hope to start the new season with a win at home against Steve Martin’s Blue Circle (Sunday) but it might not be as straightforward as Rangers manager Simon Reid may have thought that it would be as the cement boys finished last season losing just two matches from their last 10. If Blue Circle can start with a victory it would be only the second time in five years that they have achieved that feat which is a similar record to that of their hosts, so with everything to play for the match could end in stalemate, but if there is to be a winner it should be Blue Circle providing the can continue where they left off from last term
Steeple Ashton Rangers v Corsham United
After last season’s disappointing showing, Nathan Holloway’s Steeple Ashton Rangers side will expect to do a lot better this time around, Corsham United are first up for Ranger who will want to turn their St Mary’s pitch into the fortress that it was in their first season in the league when they lifted the division four title. Rangers were unbeaten at home in their title winning season, but last season saw them defeated twice, but seeing they have never dropped a point against Kai Flack’s Corsham United side they shouldn’t fear them and should collect another two points that would get their season off to the perfect start.
Westbury Rangers B v The Crown FC
Devizes based the Crown FC have an impressive record against Westbury Rangers B having won three of their previous four encounters so new manager Tom Perkins will be hopeful that his new look side will be able to maintain their good form over Dave Griffin’s Ranger’s side who finished two places and four points adrift of their opponents last term. Rangers will be hopeful that their Meadow Lane pitch will see more football in the early part of this campaign than it did in the previous one due to the un-seasonal weather conditions. It’s really hard to pick a winner from the game but due to their recent good run of form over Rangers, the Crown are tipped to claim victory.
White Horse v Trowbridge Town Supporters’ Club
Clive Black will take his Westbury based White Horse side the short distance to Bratton where they will be greeted by Kevin Williams Trowbridge Town Supporters’ Club outfit who will go into the contest having failed to win any of their final seven games of the previous season. White Horse who lost just once in their final 10 games in division four will be confident that they can take that form into division three and start with a victory over the side they last played in February 2005 but they will want to and should do better than they did back then as the supporters’ club claimed a 6-3 win. White Horse should be quickest out of the stalls and should claim a narrow win.
