The League welcomes three new sides to Division Four and all of them are scheduled to be in action on the opening day and for the first time for many seasons none of them have been paired together in week one.

Malmesbury based FC Boroughs begin life in the league with a home game against Audley Spartans who for the last few seasons have been known as Chippenham United RAOB.

With Boroughs being an unknown quality Spartans will go into the game not knowing what to expect from their hosts but a half decent Boroughs outfit are likely to get the better of a Spartans side who struggled to find their best form for most of last season winning just four of their 24 games.

Gladstone Rovers v Chippenham West End

Chippenham based rivals Gladstone Rovers (formerly Old Road Tavern) and Chippenham West End go head to head in what promises to be a red-blooded opener at Sutton Benger Recreation Ground. Over the last few seasons it is the West End who have got the upper hand over Bernie Court’s side with two victories and a draw from the four meetings of the sides. However the tide may be about to change as Court will be hoping that a change of name will lead to a change of fortunes and wit ha lot of local pride at stake it is Gladstone Rovers who are tipped to take the spoils from their first derby battle of the season.

Lavington (Sunday) v AFC Lyneham

Oliver Hickton will be hoping that his Lavington (Sunday) outfit can make an immediate return to Division three after suffering relegation at the end of last term. Hickton’s side have home advantage against the league whipping boys of the previous two campaign’s in AFC Lyneham who have managed just four wins from their 48 matches since they joined the league back in 2007. Myles Hickton has rejoined his brother’s side and it would be something of a surprise if the productive striker didn’t have a field day against a Lyneham side who conceded an average of almost 10 goals per game last term. Lavington to start with a bang and could even top the table after the opening round of games due to what should be a massive goal difference.

Mash Tun Villa v Somerford FC

A change of name from Westbridge Re-United to Mash Tun Villa and a change of pitch location from the Stallards, Trowbridge to Woodmarsh home of Trowbridge Town FC might not help Villa play any better but with a few new signings they are expected to finish higher than they did last season and may even feature in the race for promotion. Villa host Somerford FC in their first game at Woodmarsh and with both side having claimed a win apiece last season this meeting could well end in a high scoring draw. Somerford maybe missing top scorer of the last few seasons Wayne Burry and if that is the case the villagers may well struggle in front of goal and without a recognised striker in their ranks it may just give Villa the edge as the look to get off to a winning start.

Potterne B v Corsham Park Rangers

Potterne B may be new to the league but one thing for certain is that their players won’t be as many of them will have played in the league before. Potterne welcome Corsham Park Rangers to their Northbrook ground and should register their first win against a Corsham Park side who suffered relegation at the end of last season. Corsham Park under manager Martin Perrett have bought in a few new faces in an attempt to make an immediate return to Division three and their pre-season build up has been good so if they can continue in the way they have been playing in friendlies they may just get something from a game they are expected to lose.

Witham Friary v X Change FC

Witham Friary have been one of the most successful sides in the Frome & District Sunday league for a long time so much so that manager Richard Gould fancied a new challenge so his team have crossed the Somerset border to take on the best that Wiltshire have to offer. Gould may have to wait a couple of seasons before his team come up against the better sides in the league and Division four should be a walk in the park for them. X Change FC (formerly King Arms) are first up for the newcomers and unfortunately for the Devizes based side they are odds on to become the first side to suffer a heavy loss at the hands of a very good Witham Friary side.
