The race for silverware in Division One promises to be another gripping one with both of the newly promoted teams in with a realistic chance of claiming promotion to the premiership.
Chippenham based Pheasant FC will be confident that they can do well even though they have lost a few players in the close season.
Manager Ollie Selman knows that his team will be capable of competing in the division as they claimed the scalps of four fist division sides on their way to last season Knockout Cup final.
If Pheasant hit the ground running then they should be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.
FC Bradford who were promoted along with Pheasant should also do well and manager Pete Collier will be looking to his trio of new signings in Dan, Sam and Jake Jordan who he has recruited from local rivals Bradford Renegades to produce the goods that will fire their new team into the top flight.
Between Sam and Jake Jordan they scored 47 goals last term and if the pairing can settle in with Mark Robinson and Steve Bryant whose 86 goals helped Bradford to promotion then Collier’s side should be a side to be feared by the rest of the division.
Having finished third last season, many people thought that Melksham based Foresters Arms would build on that finish and be among the favourites for a top two finish but that may not be the case now as manager Pat Johnson had seen a few key players leave the side.
Johnson has seen Luke Turvey move to Cooper Avon, but the biggest lost will be top scorer Leigh Rowles-Hitchcock who along with Sean Fordham have joined local rivals Atworth United.
Unless Foresters bring in a few new faces they will be hard pressed to better last season’s finish and may well have to settle for third or fourth place this time around.
Bremhill View Social Club will be playing at Beaversbrook Sports Ground this season and manager Martin Belcher will be hoping that the switch from Goatacre to the new sports facility in Calne will prove to be the right one.
Bremhill View proved the pundits wrong last term by finishing in fifth spot and with a bit more consistency this season they could well be the surprise package and might just ruffle a few feathers in what should be another good season for Belcher’s band of warriors.
Relegated FC Colerne and Miller Sports may well be looking for an immediate return back to the top flight but that is unlikely to happen and the two sides may well struggle for a second successive season.
Of the two teams it is Colerne who should fare the better and if joint managers Eric Randall and Brian Moses can get the villagers to click they will have every chance of finishing in the top half of the standings.
Colerne hope to welcome back a few of their former players to help bolster the side and if the likes of Jamie Bowler and Sam Puckett arrive return to the Bath Road club from Box Rovers then they should have few problems in holding their own in what will not only be a tough division to get out of but a hard one to stay in.
Miller Sports have lost the services of goalkeeper Nick Evans to FC Jager, but manager Tim Knight may not view it as a lose as Evans featured very little last term as the team slipped out of the premiership.
Miller are predicted to be among the clubs battling for survival but manager Knight has taken steps to reinforce his team by signing Steve Badger who was with Pig & Whistle United and former Bradford News man Darren Morris.
It is going to more than a couple of players to end Miller’s 21 match losing run but if a few more players arrive before the start of the campaign then Miller’s rebuilding process should start to gather pace sooner rather than later.
Neil Parish has taken over from Mark Hurkett as manager of Bradford News and he has been given the job of getting them back into the top flight which could be a hard one considering the newsmen have lost a few experienced players in the close season.
Parish will hope to use his vast knowledge of the local football scene to tempt players to the Trowbridge Road club but he might face an uphill task with local rivals FC Bradford looking as if they have the pulling power to attach the youngsters at the moment. Bradford News should achieve another top four placing but it may be a lot harder to do than it was last term.
Rowde FC have seen a number of summer departures and may not be the team they have been over the past few seasons and may well feature at the bottom end of the table rather the they top like they have been use to in recent seasons.
Rowde hope to still have Kevin Whitbread as their boss but he is likely to share the position with another yet unnamed person.
Rowde look as if they are going to have to start the rebuilding process all over again having done all the hard work in climbing back up the league from division four to where they are today but with a little bit of luck they should consolidate their position in the division but it could be a nail biting nine months.
AFC Calne may not be one of the fancied sides but with the nucleus of last seasons team and a few new faces on board manager Jason Matthews is hopeful that his team may well have it in them to cause a few shocks this season as they look to be the team that takes everyone by surprise.
Once again Matthews will be hoping that stalwarts Dean and Craig Fry, Aaron Ward, Simon Dance, and Ryan Kelleher can come up trumps and if they can then Calne could claim a top four finish.
After a disastrous last campaign Atworth United hope that this season will prove to be a lot better for them. Atworth failed to live up to the highs of the 2007/08 season when they finished in seventh spot, well clear of the drop zone, but they were unable to repeat that last season when they finished in 11th place and had Carpenters Arms not dropped out of the league they could well be playing second division football this term.
Atworth will hope to take full advantage of the lifeline that has been given them and with new signings Leigh Rowles-Hitchcock and Sean Fordham who is back at the club they could well surprise a few teams especially if keeper Joe Menghini who was the league player of the season last term has another good one then they should finish clear of the danger zone.
Over the past few seasons Chippenham Sports & Social Club have been tipped for relegation but each time they have proved that the so called experts don’t know anything about the league.
Once again the Sports will be predicted to struggle but no doubt they will still be in the division at the end of the season but they will have to gain more than the five victories that they did last year otherwise they will be very much up against it and might be this seasons whipping boys.
A good start for the Sports would see a major rethink as to their final league position but if they take a while to register their first win then they looked doomed to a season of toil that may well end in relegation.
North Bradley could be the team to keep an eye on this season as they look to put a dreadful few seasons behind them. Bradley have the players who are capable of returning them to the good old days when they were seen as a team to fear but it’s the job of manager Tim Richards of getting tem to turn up on a Sunday morning, which if they do then they could have one of their best seasons for a long time.
Bradley have been guilty of playing ineligible players over the past few seasons and if they are found guilty again this term their long run in the league may come to an end as the league plan to come down very hard on teams who play unregistered players this season wit higher fines.
Stuart Powell has taken over as club secretary as to date he seems to guiding the team in the right direction and only time will tell if things will improve of the field but on it Bradley look to be in good shape.
