AFTER success training Arab horses, Sam Davison has become a fully-fledged racehorse trainer.

She recently received her licence from the British Horseracing Authority and hopes to have her first runner at Kempton next week.

Davison has taken over a yard at Ogbourne Maisey for the thoroughbreds and will keep the Arab horses going at Beckhampton with the help of colleague Adam Newey.

“I realise it’s not the perfect time to start training with the recession about but I have got to start sometime and with 13 boxes at Ogbourne it seemed like the ideal opportunity,’’ she said.

“Hopefully it will be a dual purpose yard with jumpers and flat horses.

“At the moment I have Marmot Destruval for the jumps, an unnamed two-year-old and the three year old Foxtrot Bravo, who hopefully will be my first-ever runner at Kempton.

Davison also has an owner keen for her to buy three horses for him at the Tattersalls Sales and is on the lookout for more owners and syndicates.

“Neighbouring trainer Peter Makin will be allowing me to use his grass gallops while the yard has an all weather gallop as well as some excellent facilities plus the use of gallops at Sharpridge Barbury Castle,'' she added.

“There is not too much difference than training Arabs, horses are horses, but it’s a big step and hopefully there will be some exciting times ahead and things will go well.”

She worked with Newey for Beckhampton trainer Roger Charlton for around six years before starting training Arab horses at rented stables nearby.

Last season they trained around a dozen winners and have had six winners so far this season.

Looking ahead to this weekend's racing, tomorrow sees the official opening of Ffos Las the new Welsh racecourse by former BBC commentator Sir Peter O’Sullivan with Welsh singer Cerys Matthews performing after racing.

The feature race on the card is the £50,000 Freebets.co.uk Handicap Chase where the circuits owner will looking to get some of his investment back by winning the race with the Peter Bowen trained Snoopy Loopy.

The 11-year-old did his owner proud last season with a couple of good victories and a good third in the Hennessy Gold Cup under top weight.

Hool La Baloo from the Paul Nicholls yard is expected to run well with Ruby Walsh in the saddle, having finished second at Newton Abbot last weekend.

A bumper crowd of 12,000 is expected for Friday’s meeting where the official opening takes place after the first race.

The course has already staged one jumps and one flat fixture this year.

Former Manton trained Delegator, now with the Godolphin team, will looking to land the Totesport Celebration Mile at Goodwood on Saturday.

The three year old is in good form and, if reproducing that shown when finishing second to Sea The Stars in the 2,000 Guineas, he could take all the beating.

Owner Khalid Abdulah has supplemented recent Listed winner Zacinto at the cost of £10,000 together with the Stef Liddiard trained Mac Love, who has won two Group 3 races in his last three runs and, according to his Lambourn trainer, is in the form of his life.

As well as the Celebration mile, other feature Goodwood races include the Group Three two-year-old Prestige Stakes and the Listed Windflower March Stakes.

Wiltshire trainer Richard Hannon has been having a hand in many of the big juvenile races and could add another to his tally with Full Mandate in the Group Three event.

Trainer John Dunlop enjoys a winner on his home course and King Of Wands could prevail in the one mile, six furlong March Stakes.

Newmarket stages a seven-race card, beginning with a two-year-old Maiden Stakes that could be won by another Hannon youngster in Lean Machine.

In the Listed Hopeful Stakes, the Henry Cecil-trained Bouvardia could be the answer.

Other meetings are scheduled for Beverley, with evening meetings at Windsor and Redcar and a jumping fixture at Cartmel.
