Bradford Town 2nd XI (21 points) beat Burbage & ER 2nd XI (3 points) by 68 runs.
After stand in skipper Tony Burrows lost the toss, Bradford Town were asked to bat first on a green wicket which seemed it would offer some assistants to the bowlers. Bradford got off to a great start with opener Clive Warren hitting 12 runs off the 1st over.
After this, the Burbage bowlers found their line & length and bowled well, and grabbed their 1st wicket in the 10th over, that of Warren for 27 the home team were 31 for 1. This bought Bradford stalwart Bob Powell to the crease.
He and fellow old hand Graham Long put on a solid 73 run partnership during which Powell needed a runner after pulling a hamstring. Burbage despite the lack of wickets bowled well with bowler R.Cope bowling a very tidy spell. When Long departed for 41 Bradford were 103 for 2. Flippence quickly took a 2nd wicket that of Ben Powell for 7.
This bought Tony Burrows to the crease and with Bradford needing some impetus to their innings, Burrows hit an unbeaten 30 off 28 balls.
With Bob Powell bravely holding the other end up with some well placed shots he finished on 63 not out and Bradford with a total of 173 for 3 from their 45 over’s.
League leaders Burbage & ER 2nds got off to a bad start with loosing bother openers for 11 runs. Wickets kept tumbling with Ben Powell & Aaron Crute bowling very impressive opening spells.
Crute finished with excellent figures off his 9 over’s with no less than 6 maidens and taking 2 wickets.
Burbage were 31 for 4 off 11 over’s. With Burbage needing to rebuild the middle order obliged with R.Buck and supported well by A.Elliot at the other end Burbage moved to 67.
Bradford needing a wicket, Tim Burrows stood up and broke the partnership taking the wicket of Buck for 29. Burrows then took another quick wicket and Bradford were once more on top.
Powell returned to mop up the tail and finish with 4 wickets and give Bradford Town a comprehensive 68 run victory over the League leaders.
Bradford are now looking to secure their Division 4 status for next year with a winner takes all game against Westbury 3rds on the last day of the season.
