Melksham rivals FC Jager, who play in division three, and premier division Cooper Avon go head to head on Sunday 30th of August at Melksham Town's ground-The Conigre, in their last of their pre season friendlies.
FC Jager player manager Barry Holloway and Cooper Avon veteran playmaker Dave Macey have worked together to organise this much anticipated clash and the two teams have decided to make this a yearly event in which the winners will win a trophy kindly donated by the Cobblers bench in Melksham. The trophy is named "The champions of Melksham super Sunday cup".
Despite FC Jager only entering the league last season, the two teams already hold a huge rivalry, with many of the two sets of players either being good friends with the other or knowing them very well.
This rivalry was kick started last season when the two sides met in the reebrooks print media sponsored Eric Hughes Memorial Cup in which FC Jager came out on top with a 2-1 win. The players of FC Jager have not let the Cooper Avon players forget this and friendly banter is often shared between the two teams.
Cooper Avon are desperate to avenge that loss and so this should prove a fascinating game of football with both sides expecting to field strong sides.
The game kicks off at 10.45 am and Entry is free.
