Wiltshire’s County Champion, Hannah Turland from Tidworth Garrison golf club, was just one shot away from winning the Ladies’ British Open Amateur Strokeplay Championship at Royal Aberdeen last week.
The 15-year-old led the international field by three shots after the second round and went into the third day four shots clear of her nearest rival.
However, two nightmare holes on the last nine of the final round gave Ireland’s Danielle McVeigh the chance to overtake Hannah and win the title.
Although very disappointed at the end result, Hannah felt that she played really well over the first three days.
“Those two holes ruined everything – but I’ll get over it”, she said.
Despite not clinching the title, Hannah came away with the Holden Trophy (as Runner-up) and also the Dinwiddy Trophy for the Best Under 18.
Another fantastic performance to add to her already impressive list of achievements so far in her amateur golfing career, including, most recently, being unbeaten in her matches for England at the Girls’ Home Internationals in Lancashire earlier this month.
