Chippenham Town Ladies make winning start to new season in South West Women’s Premier Division.
The game started at a brisk pace in brilliant sunshine as both teams played some good attacking football without putting either goalkeeper under pressure.
The first goal went to Chippenham in the 20th minute when good passing between Chloe Giles and Hannah Way opened up the Bristol Union Ladies defence for Emma Bolter to fire a low shot that was blocked by the keeper.
However, a determined Bolter bundled the ball over the line. Both teams continued to attack with Bristol having some success down the right wing and good crosses into the box.
But some brave goalkeeping by Amy Waller kept Chippenham ahead. Chippenham doubled their lead in the 32nd minute when from an attack down the right wing Saphri Lines chipped the goalkeeper from a tight angle and the ball bounced into the roof of the net.
Bristol were the brighter team after the half time break and pulled a goal back within 4 minutes of the start.
Four Bristol players ran at the Chippenham defence and, before they could be tackled, the ball was chipped over the goalkeeper and into the net.
Bristol continued to attack, but a good break by Bolter in the 60th minute added to the score. Collecting the ball on the half way line, she pushed the ball behind the Bristol defenders, ran through to collect the ball, rounded the keeper and side footed the ball into the centre of the net.
Bristol scored their second goal eight minutes later with a break down the right and a square ball low across the box that was fired into the net by one of four onrushing Bristol players.
Bristol pulled the scores level in the 85th minute when their right midfield player drove into the box and fired low across the goal and into the net.
Chippenham continued to push for the win though and were rewarded in the 91st minute when Lines fired in her second goal from a tight angle wide on the right.
Chippenham Town Ladies next game is away to Weymouth Town on Sunday 30 August 2009.
