TWO first-half goals proved too big an obstacle for Devizes Town to overcome on Tuesday evening as the search goes on for their first league win of the season.
Kevin Whitbread’s side have lost three out of three in the Toolstation League First Division.
They fell behind on 20 minutes when defender Steve Bush was out-jumped from a corner kick and the visitors made it two minutes later.
“We played okay but let in two sloppy goals in the first half,” he said.
“For the first goal I thought Bushy was being held down by their striker.
“The referee clearly didn’t see it but in my mind it was a foul and shouldn’t have been given.
“For the second goal their winger ran down the right hand side, put a cross in and the forward scored. It wasn’t a defensive mistake but I would liked to have seen us stop it earlier in the move.
“In the second half we responded well and were on top for most of it. There were a lot of positives.
“However they are quite an experienced side, with a few ex-Chippenham players, and they saw the game out.”
Devizes travel to Les Phillips Cup holders Oldland Abbotonians on Saturday and Whitbread has a selection headache for the game.
“Gary Cambell, Steve Bush and Liam Hill are all missing,” he said.
Nathan Moffat will also miss out due to injury while Luke Enderby has suffered a broken metatarsal and will be out for two months.
