WELSH winger Kyle Bassett says he understands the reason for his omission from the first team so far this season but is keen to make his mark sooner rather than later.
The former Cardiff City man, who can also play as a striker, looked to be the Bluebirds’ most dangerous player with his pace a constant threat down the right-hand-side of the pitch.
Bassett has started both of the opening two league games on the bench, with Mings preferring a more defensively-minded midfield quartet, but he says he can;t wait to break into the starting line-up.
“It’s my first two games for the club so I’m just looking to work my way in,” he said.
“When I have done that I’ll try to make the position my own.
“My main position is on the wing really but I really don’t mind where I play, just as long as I play.”
Bassett, who impressed against Chippenham last season for Clevedon Town, played the role of super sub in Saturday’s opener at home to Nuneaton and was influential in Shaun Benison’s late winner after his dipping shot was parried by keeper Darren Acton.
He was again given only ten minutes to impress on Tuesday night but he is confident the club can extend their unbeaten run at Rugby on Saturday regardless of whether he is given a starting role or not.
“Two wins out of two is good for any team,” he said.
“We’ve just got to make sure we push on and not let ourselves go.
“The two boys up front Lewis and Ben looked really sharp and they both grabbed a goal so hopefully they can kick on and we can see more goals to come.”
