Calne defeat local rivals Lyneham 8-2 First division AFC Calne started their pre season warm up with a friendly over local rivals AFC Lyneham, a little unsure of what they would be up against knowing that Lyneham were bringing many new signings and a new coach with them.
The visitors arrived at Avebury with enough players for two teams and once they set up training cones and started their warm up Calne thought they were in for a hard game but it wasn’t to be as the hosts coasted a an 8-2 success.
Calne started the brighter of the two teams and took the lead with only five minutes gone when the reliable Dean Fry found the back of the net, just two minutes later Fry had the ball in the net again for two-nil. With Lyneham camped in their own half it was all Calne and on 20 minutes Dave Herring made it 3-0. On the half hour mark Dean Fry headed home to complete his hat trick, soon after four-nil became five when Aaron Clegg got his name on the score sheet and the same player made it 6-0 as Calne threatened to run riot.
Dave Herring got his second of a rampant first 45 minutes as Calne went into the break seven goals to the good.
Lyneham came out with a bit more fight in the second half and scored twice to bring the score to 7-2, Ryan Kelleher then scored number eight for Calne before Lyneham missed from the penalty spot. Calne played some good football as the old boys quickly got back into their stride and new signing Danny Box had a good game on his debut after signing from the defunct Biddestone Arms.
Crown dominant against Kings Arms Division three title contenders Crown FC played fourth division Kings Arms (All Cannings) in a friendly at All Cannings yesterday, and the Crown who were fielding three new singings got off to a flyer with an 8-1 win.
Tom Slater started the scoring in the fifth minute when he found the net from an acute angle to beat John Hampshire who played between the sticks for the Crown last season.
New singing Jonny Emm turned well just inside the box and found the top corner of the Kings Arms net to double the lead, Dan Sloan got the third with a glancing header from a good cross from stand in right back John Oram. A penalty won and converted by Slater made it four on the half hour mark before Liam Hill’s deflected effort made it five-nil.
Both teams shuffled made changes at the break but it was the Crown again who flew out the traps, on 50 minutes Liam Hill got his second of the game when he picked the ball up in his own half, ran through the opponents midfield then fired home a thunderbolt from 30 yards that took the scoreline to a rout. Nathan Emm completed the Crown’s scoring with a brace, the first a header from close range and the second a lighting strike into the top corner after good work from Slater.
Crown’s new goal keeper, 17 year old Martin Mitchell who made a few great saves in throughout the match was unable to keep a clean sheet when he was beaten by Stuart Wares, Wares took the ball round player-manager Tom Perkins and finished well to make the final score 8-1.
The game was played in a very sporting manner by both clubs, Kings Arms manager Jim Wilson said “it was a good run out, but we were out played today” and Crown FC player manager Tom Perkins said “I’m pleased the new players gelled well together, I did not have to say much at half time, but when the season starts and the going gets tough, I’ll get them going!”

Newcomers Boroughs FC claim friendly win over Eastlands Third division, Eastlands FC started their pre season campaign fielding five new signings against league newcomers FC Boroughs from Malmesbury.
The first half was fairly even with the best chances falling to Adam Davey’s Eastlands side, in particular a far post header from new man Geoff Goodway (ex Biddestone Arms) that should have been converted but was headed over, Eastlands were made to pay for the miss as Boroughs took the lead however shortly before half time when a near post flick on from a long throw took new goalkeeper Ben Bevan by surprise and he couldn't keep the ball from crossing the line.
Changes were made by both sides during the game and chances were created at either end but the visitors managed to increase their lead to 3-0 in the second half before Ciaron Davies popped up with a cheeky back heeled goal, capitalising on a rebound from Tim Culling's direct free kick.
Eastlands Andy Hunt was presented with the player of the season award for last term's performance after he netted 11 of their 30 goal total for the season.
