Boxing: History will be made tomorrow night as Melksham hosts its first ever professional boxing show.

Organised by First Team Promotions, the event at the Christie Miller Sports Centre in Bowerhill will be the first professional boxing show in west Wiltshire since 1941.

The promoters have been so excited by what they have seen of Wiltshire fighters Nick ‘Bang Bang’ Blackwell, from Trowbridge, and Melksham’s Liam Richards that they are handing both the chance to make their professional debuts locally.

Teenage hot-shot Blackwell has built a reputation as an explosive middleweight puncher on the unlicensed circuit.

Richards, 22, was Southern Area super-featherweight champion and his 15-fight record shows two wins inside 30 seconds.

PJ Rowson of promoters First Team Promotions admits he discovered the boxers by accident.

He said: “I went to watch a boxer and I was looking at signing up when I saw Nick beating him up in sparring, I knew we had to sign him up instead.

“I’m very excited by Liam as well, with his fast footwork and awkward style he is hard to catch.

“Hopefully, the public will get behind these two.”

Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets are available on the door.
