Football: Goal-machine Mark Dolman says he is desperate to break into Calne Town’s first team next term after a stunning season in which he netted an incredible 82 times.

The 21-year-old, from Lick Hill, picked up the Gazette & Herald-sponsored Golden Boot award last night at the Chippenham Sunday League’s annual presentation evening after scoring 72 league goals for North Star B.

Dolman also featured for Calne’s reserves and, after the appointment of Kelvin Highmore as manager at Bremhill View, the prolific hitman believes he is capable of making the step up.

“I’ve had a spell in the reserves but this year I want to get into the first team,” he said.

“Kelvin was Calne’s manager when I was there in the U18s so at least he knows about me.

“He phoned to check that I would still be there next season and I said I would be. We had a bit of a bit of a chat and it’s up to me to impress him now.”

Highmore, who along with Paul Thompson has replaced Rob Lardner and Simon Hillier, says Dolman will be in his plans but he will have to earn his place.

“He was there during the last year of my previous spell,” said the former Melksham Town boss.

“He’s a good player and he’s got the potential to move up, but it depends how much he wants it.

“It will be up to him to knuckle down and work hard. I’ll set him targets and he will have to meet them.

“I like to see my strikers in double figures and they should be setting themselves targets as well.”

Highmore also confirmed the capture of veteran defender, and former Devizes Town captain Darren Robison.

“He’s the type of player Calne have been crying our for,” he said. “He’s a major, major coup.”
