Swindon Town's new assistant manager Peter Shirtliff arrived in Wiltshire yesterday, and immediately set his sights on raiding former side Tranmere Rovers.
After three weeks of silence from the County Ground, Shirtliff was finally unveiled as Danny Wilson’s number two, as the Swindon manager continues to mould his own backroom staff.
George Wood joined the club as goalkeeping coach last week, while David Byrne has stepped into a new head of player development role.
And 48-year-old Shirtliff revealed he and Wilson have already targeted a number of new signings, including some from his ex-employers, but missed out on capturing ex-Rovers captain Antony Kay, who has since signed for Huddersfield Town.
“There would be one or two we are interested in (from Tranmere),” Shirtliff revealed.
“We’ve already mentioned a couple to each other, but one has already gone to Huddersfield who was a good player.
“Most of them are biding their time in terms of what they do but there would be one or two. There probably needs to be a couple more additions, and if we can do that then we will have a squad which is capable of competing at this level.
“There are one or two who we have spoken about this morning that are available and reasonable players.
“But they’ve got to be the right type - not just getting players in for the sake of it.”
