Cricket: After their two impressive wins in the previous games this was Wilts’ last group game against Oxfordshire. With a dry day forecast the team headed to Purton.

Once again, Captain Guy Brothwood won the toss and decided to bat. However, Brothwood and Jack Haines were quickly out followed by Michael Reynolds soon after for 21 in the 9th over.

With Wilts at 49 for 3, Craig Miles who had scored well in the previous match set about rebuilding the innings with Hector Whitrow. The pair had a 46 run partnership before Whitrow was brilliantly caught and bowled for 15.

Jack Dymoke and Miles carried on steadily until Miles was bowled for 48. Jack Dymoke, batting very sensibly, was out after reaching his best county score of 48. By the close Wilts had reached a credible 185 ao from 48.1 overs.

The lads set about bowling Oxfordshire out with a steely determination and soon they were rewarded with Craig Miles getting one of the openers caught behind by Tom Weaver.

James Lavis soon had the other opener out clean bowled. Miles, with the last ball of his spell, then had their number 4, Coles, clean bowled, with the stumps flying everywhere. O

xfordshire were struggling now, at 25 for 3 off 10 overs.

The spin of Brad Dawson, younger brother of Hants pro Liam, was introduced and there followed a steady stream of wickets.

With the pace of Ben Gardner bowling very tightly at the other end, things were looking very ominous for Oxfordshire.

The pair accounted for 7 wickets between them, Dawson finishing with his first ever county five wicket haul, 8-2-27-5 and Gardner a miserly 5-1-10-2. Oxfordshire finished on a disappointing 75 all out, with Wilts winning by 110 runs.

A thoroughly comprehensive win over Oxfordshire with solid batting from Miles and Dymoke and tight bowling from Dawson, Gardner and Miles.

Wilts now go forward to the County Cup quarter finals playing the winners of the Hants v Devon match.
