Superbikes: Etchilhampton's Tommy Bridewell topped the privateer’s Cup podium on Sunday after a mesmerising performance during round five of the ViSK British Superbike at Snetterton.

The 20-year-old NB Suzuki rider took advantage of Superbike Cup leader Gary Mason’s first race mechanical problems, finishing 15th overall but most-importantly coming home as the first privateer. In race two Bridewell, who last year raced in the Italian Superbike championship, was unable to repeat the trick and finished in fourth in the privateer’s cup and 20th overall.

“It was a good ride – it was a hard fought one and the win didn’t come easy,” said Bridewell. “But at the end of the day I wouldn’t be here without my family.

“They have been a massive help and I believe I will win a race in the main championship one day so until then I will have to keep doing what I am doing now.

“I would like to dedicate this to my brother Ollie and again a massive thanks need to go to my friends and family for supporting me and helping me get a ride.

It would be impossible without them. I am glad to be here at Snetterton and I can’t wait to build on my results in the future.”

Meanwhile, Victor Cox, who has ridden in the British Supersport Championships for the last three seasons, suffered a disappointing weekend in Norfolk as he twice disappointed.

Problems refused to leave Cox and STP Motorsport MV Agusta team alone during practice and warm-up and it was no surprise he ended with a 20th and 22nd place finishes.

It was similarly disappointing for Swindon’s Kenny Gilbertson, who grabbed a fourth place in the privateer’s cup in race one, before crashing out all-together in the warm-up lap for race two.
