Wiltshire County Cricket League Division 3: Collingbourne v Seagry

Despite early morning rain, the wicket and outfield were a picture at Collingbourne for the Wiltshire League fixture verses Seagry.

Will Tidmarsh the Seagry captain won the toss and not unexpectedly decided to bat on a good looking wicket that looked full of runs.

Seagry started very slowly with only 8 runs coming from the first 5 overs of tight bowling by the teenage opening pair of Ollie Scott and Charlie Knight.

Ollie Scott bowled through to take 2 wkts for 30 off 12 overs and his younger partner Charlie Knight bowling 8 overs for just 18 runs.

Seagry continued to struggle against the change bowling of debutant Vaughan Brown reaching 30 for the loss of two wkts off the first 15 overs.

Things really took off, literally when Brown decided to bowl around the wicket taking a hat-trick in his 9th over and virtually finished off the Seagry innings with amazing figures of 5-33 in his first game for the club. Leaving Seagry 110 all out in 39 overs, with only Paul Lewis in double figures, falling near the end of the innings for a well struck 56.

In complete contrast the Collingbourne Innings set off at Twenty-20 type pace being 73 after just 10 overs. Unfortunately Tom Grant was out just short of yet another well deserved Fifty on 47 (off just 29 balls hitting nine 4’s).

Skipper for the day Graham Chandler (38 not out, also containing nine 4,s) continued his steady progress partnered by Geoff Rogers ( 19 off just 20 balls) and hitting the winning runs in the 17th over for a comprehensive 8 wkt victory and 23 league points keeping Collingbourne top of Division 3 for another week.
