Wiltshire’s involvement in the MCCA Trophy Knock Out Cup came to an end at Corsham on Sunday when they lost their quarter final match to Oxfordshire by seven wickets.

Winning the toss, James Hibberd decided to bat, but a side whose batting in the 3 previous matches had averaged over 300 runs failed to fire on this occasion against fine bowling by the Oxfordshire opening bowlers and were dismissed for 175 in the 47th over.

Both openers, Joe Breet and Tom Morton were out with the score at 4 and then Liam Dawson (25), Wes Durston (20) and Greg Lamb (14) were soon out and Wiltshire’s score stood at 64 for 5 off 16 overs.

James Golding (36) and Michael Coles (45) put on 71 for the 6th wicket and Jon Chandler made 21 as Wiltshire were all out for 175. Stuart Hole took 3 for 43, Richard Gilbert 2 for 27 and Daniel Rowe 2 for 42.

In reply Oxfordshire had no trouble in scoring the runs to win which they did in the 46th over.

Damian Shirazi (69), the former Wiltshire player, and Chris Sandbach (39) put on 94 for the 1st wicket and then Craig Haupt followed with 40 not out as Oxfordshire finished on 177 for 3 wickets to reach the semi final of the Trophy.

For Wiltshire there was one wicket each for Liam Dawson, Michael Coles and Wes Durston.
