Mid-Wilts and Wiltshire Badminton celebrated the second player this season to reach 100 first team appearances.

Heather McCune became only the 15th player to reach this landmark in the County Association’s history in a recent 12-3 county 1st match victory against Avon II at the Christie Miller Sports Centre.

Heather, who first played for the Wiltshire County First Team in 1998, received her award at Mid-Wilts Badminton Association’s 50th Anniversary Presentation evening.

On hand to present the award was Mid-Wilts Chairman, and proud Dad, Jim McCune. Heather, who plays for Chippenham 23 Badminton Club, is the district’s most successful player. Her playing career started at the age of 6, being coached by her father, at Cricklade BC along with her mother and brother, before moving to Chippenham 23.

The club, realising the potential, entered the family and two of their number into the Bath League, which they went on to win. Included in her accolades are 24 Mid-Wilts titles, 6 Junior titles, 2 American and 15 Restricted. Swindon District’s Shaun Locke was the other player to ‘ton-up’ earlier this season.

The Swindon-Pinehurst Badminton Club player who started playing as a youngster in the early 80’s, made his first county appearance in 1991.
