Cricket: Hinton Charterhouse v Box

Box secured a much needed win on Saturday that has lifted them back to the middle of the table.

Having lost the toss, Box were asked to bat first and openers Phil Oliver (27) and Neil Pettit (53) raced to 71 before Pettit was run out.

Oliver soon followed, given out LBW to John Newport (2 for 51), Newports second wicket came when he bowled Hayward (20) and Tom Reader forced Bultitude (15) to loft a catch to J Antrobus. Hintons 5th wicket came when Jacob Pettit was bowled by Tim Lawson (3 for 68) for two runs to leave Box struggling on 136 for 5 with just ten overs to go.

Tony Trotman put his foot on the gas with great effect as he he smashed his way to an unbeaten 64 not out which included five fours and four sixes to finish the box total on 199 for 8.

Further wickets to fall were that of Crawford (9) to give Reader his second wicket and Lawson picked up his second and third wickets accounting for Styles (0) and Dancey (5).

Tight bowling and excellent fielding ensured Hinton had a slow and shaky start and Daniel Pettit (4 for 36), making only his second start and opening the bowling for the first time in the first team, picked up wickets at regular intervals.

Brierley was bowled for 3 and Chris Antrobus was bowled for 8, this was soon followed by Matt Parfitt, LBW for 7 and Richard Newport playing onto his stumps for 9 to leave the hosts on 69 for 4 at the midway point of the innings.

Jerry Antrobus (3) was caught behind to a sharp catch by Trotman at first slip from the bowling of Styles (1 for 29).

Steadying the innings throughout was John Newport but he eventually fell for 36 being trapped LBW to Dancey (1 for 23).

Tim Lawson took Hinton from 100 for 6 to 142 for 7 as he bludgeoned his way to 39 before Trotman capped off a fine afternoon by running him out.

Hayward (2 for 36) removed Harvey (18) and Tanner (0).

The hosts at this stage struggling on 153 for 9.

Nerves began to run through the Box side as the last wicket put on 25 thanks to Warner (16 no) and Reader (15) before captain Dave Crawford came back into the attack to remove Readers leg stump to win the game by 21 runs.
