Ian Holloway is excited about where his Swindon Town side can get to in the coming months once they get more time on the training ground.
The new manager made a winning start as Town made it into the FA Cup Second Round following a 2-1 extra-time win over Colchester United.
Holloway said that based on what he saw from his side in his first game and the way they absorbed his instructions, they will soon become a very exciting side.
He said: “When I try and play it is normally a back four but we have got a lot of centre-halves and so in training, it didn’t look right and I asked one of them to step in and do that.
“I just felt that we were too far off attacking because the centre half realistically can’t get there, so I changed it to what I am used to doing.
“I didn’t think they could pick it up that quickly but I think that they did and we have to be ready to change our shape against all sorts of people but still understanding the principles of play so it doesn’t confuse you.
“If you imagine in another week, another two weeks, another month, another two months, and another five months they are going to be in a great place.”
The former Blackpool boss added that he had asked the players how they wanted him to go about implementing his style as he believes this group are capable of a lot.
He said: “I believe that we can play and I asked them the question ‘Do you want me to change what I do because you are not good enough to do it? Or do you want me to teach you how you can be the best you you can ever be? That is what the Premier League lads do and I believe from what I have seen that you can do it.’
“They said that they wanted the second one. I am not saying that we are doing that, I am saying that with my coaching I am always thinking about how he can score the next goal – even if they are taking a corner.
“That is how I am going to be and I think that they are enjoying it.
“I am not getting caught up in anything else, I am delighted they have done so well and it is a long, old season.”
