Swindon Town head coach Mark Kennedy has emerged as a surprise contender to take over as the manager of Burton Albion.

It was revealed on Wednesday that The Brewers had parted company with Mark Robinson after just 11 games with the club sat rock bottom of League One and on the back of seven consecutive defeats across all competitions.

Robinson was only appointed in the summer having previously managed AFC Wimbledon and also worked for the Chelsea academy.

However, his stint in Staffordshire has been a brief one following a poor start to the season after their summer squad overhaul, which included signing Udoka Godwin-Malife from Swindon for an undisclosed fee.

The defender may not be the only one swapping The Nigel Eady County Ground for The Pirelli Stadium as Kennedy has been linked with the vacant role with the early betting odds seeing him as a potential contender to succeed Robinson.

Bet Victor has listed Kennedy as the fourth favourite for the role in the opening market, with 12/1 odds, which translates to roughly a nine per cent chance of getting the nod, although the current favourite across the board is Gary Rowett.

On Oddschecker, the Swindon boss is the eighth most likely choice, although he is the only manager on the list who is currently employed in England, having Rowett, Fredrik Holmberg, Leam Richardson, Darren Stride, Daniel Berg Hestad, John Brayford, and Tom Hounsell ahead of him.

Kennedy only arrived at Swindon in the summer, having previously held roles at Lincoln City and Macclesfield Town, but has not had the best start with the club sat just one place outside of the relegation zone and with two wins from 13 League Two matches.

This run of form has left Kennedy under pressure from fans, with many on social media questioning his security in the role following the 2-1 defeat to Salford City.

Kennedy himself said that any speculation “does not concern him” as his conversations with Clem Morfuni did not indicate it.

He said: “I know a lot of stuff has gone on in the background but my conversations are with a guy who is really passionate about his club.

“He has been nothing but supportive of us in terms of the players we have looked to bring in, so it is a brilliant club.

“In terms of what Clem or the board are thinking, worrying about tomorrow ruins today, those are completely hypothetical conversations.”
