Swindon manager Mark Kennedy has discussed his opinion on the situation Town have in the goalkeeping department, stating the club are lucky to have two ‘outstanding’ keepers.

Daniel Barden joined the club on a loan deal from Norwich City on deadline day in the summer to provide competition for Jack Bycroft, something the Robins boss had wanted to wrap up for a while.

After making just the one appearance in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, the Welsh keeper found himself on the bench in the league for four games before making his first appearance in League Two against Tranmere Rovers.

Since the game in Merseyside, he’s started every game in all competitions and looks to have taken the number one spot from Bycroft.

Despite remaining tight-lipped on any differences between the two, Kennedy described having the two players as ‘unique’.

He said: “I think we’re very lucky and we’ve got two outstanding keepers and that’s quite a unique position to be in, particularly in League Two.

“Normally, a lot of clubs will have a number one and a support keeper but we’ve got two outstanding number ones.”

Swindon finished the 2023/2024 season with Conor Brann as the backup keeper, but with him being released due to his contract expiring, a replacement was needed as it left Redman Evans as the only other keeper at the club.

The Town boss continued to explain the positives of having two goalkeepers at his disposal, as they push one another to be the best versions of themselves.

“They are a credit to each other that they perform with the standard they perform at because of what they do to each other on a daily basis.

“We’re very grateful and lucky that we’ve got Jack and Daniel.”

The two goalkeepers are set to be at the Robins until the end of the season with Barden's loan ending when the season concludes, whilst Bycroft's contract is up in June.
