Swindon Town will take on Colchester United in the FA Cup First Round looking to end their poor recent record in the competition.

Town will host Danny and Nicky Cowley's Colchester in the first round of the competition.

The Essex outfit are level on points with Swindon in League Two and a place above them on goal difference, with former players Jack Payne, Rob Hunt, Ellis Iandolo, and Mandela Egbo all potentially returning to the Nigel Eady County Ground.

In seven of the last ten seasons, Swindon have exited the competition at the first hurdle and have only made the Third Round once during that time, a 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Manchester City, with Harry McKirdy scoring a memorable goal.

Four of those exits have also been against Non-League opposition, most notably becoming the first EFL team to concede seven times to Non-League opposition in the history of the competition as Michael Flynn’s team were mauled 7-4 against Aldershot Town last year.

York City and Dartford are the only side outside of the 92 that Swindon have beaten in their last nine attempts.

The First Round will take place across the weekend of Saturday, November 2.
